ZECO, the Zanzibar Electricity Company, is standing by their promise to ensure equal access to power in rural areas.  Hassan Ali Mbarouk, ZECO General Manager, announced this promise to Kilombero villagers in North Unguja Region.

Mbarouk said the Rural Electrification Project has made significant positive changes in over 280 villages in Unguja and Pemba islands.

“The rural electrification project, whose objective is to assist the people access electricity, is still in operation and we aim to ensure all villages are connected,” he said.

He said the services would be speeded up, adding that power connection would also address the problem of clean and safe water in rural areas.

People in Kilombero village in Kitope constituency are yet to enjoy clean and safe water as well as electricity. For his part, the local legislator, Seif Ali Iddi, urged ZECO to ensure electricity reached the area soon.
