Western Cape wind farm at Hopefield

23 April 2009 – Plans to build a wind farm near Hopefield in the Western Cape have been welcomed by the Regional Chamber of Commerce.

President of the Chamber, Jeremy Wiley, says “This is one of the first responses to the new feed-in tariffs (Refit) announced by the National Energy Regulator and we hope that there will be many more.”

He continued that the tariffs made it possible for viable business plans in the alternative energy field to be developed.

“What is even more important is that the incentive tariffs will be a means to tap into the enterprise, initiative, and powers of innovation found only in the private sector. I think that in a few years time we might by pleasantly surprised by the results.”
