In the latest episode of ESI Insights, the ongoing topic of utility maintenance is highlighted. The ESI team spoke with industry experts to find out where African utilities are in terms of their maintenance programmes and where their focus should be.
Speaking to Robert Mubiru, Independent Energy Consultant, he notes that utilities in East Africa have woken up to the importance of asset maintenance, implementing various routine activities.
However, to improve revenue streams and total service delivery, he highlights that advanced systems should be adopted.
On a more granular level, Eskom Rotek’s Dr Amesh Singh explained how condition monitoring maintenance is going to evolve and transform the utility space in the years to come.
Singh notes the transition towards Artificial Intelligence, which is well on the way to disrupting the sector with advanced technologies and solutions penetrating the global market at a rapid pace – but is Africa ready for this type of transition right now?
