16 July 2008 An US$8 million contract has been signed between Umeme and Soluziona Consultoria Technologia, a Spanish software company, for a customer care and billing system, Robert Kisubi, Umeme spokesperson announced this week. He said the system would be installed by the end of the year.
"Most of our 300,000 customers have accurate bills. About 3,000 have a problem each month. We intend to bring this figure to nil," he said in a recent interview.
Under the new system, old meters will be phased out and clients will have to buy cards and load them on to the meters.
