17 April 2013 – The Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) plans to add two power generation plants by June 2013 with a combined capacity of 250 MW. These will be located in Bir Mecharga.

During the summer of 2012 the country’s water and sanitation services company Sonede was unable to provide drinking water to several internal areas due to power cuts and Tunisia is keen to avoid that situation arising again.

To ensure this is so, the STEG power distribution networks will be strengthened and maintenance operations will be launched at all power stations, in addition to coordination with Algeria and Libya for a joint supply of electricity, in case of need.
