14 February 2008 – An international tender is to be offered next week by Egypt’s department of electricity and energy to choose a consultancy for the country’s first nuclear power station, minister of electricity and energy, Hassan Younes said this week.

The ministry will issue brochure conditions and classifications, Younes said, ensuring the project is in line with nuclear safety regulations.

The focus of the tender will be to update studies on the al-Dabba area, the site chosen for Egypt’s first nuclear power station, and other sites suitable for exploitation.

The al-Dabba site is 160kms west of Alexandria along the Mediterranean coast.

All international companies involved in the nuclear industry will be invited to tender.
