Tariff increase implemented in Nigeria

2 July 2008 – Nigerian’s started paying US$ 0.09 per kilowatt as of the 1st July, up from US$0.05 per kilowatt under a new multiyear tariff order.

Price increasesThe price increases were announced in April as a way to boost confidence of lenders and investors alike as to the profitability of the Nigerian power sector.

The Electricity Consumers Association of Nigeria (ECAN) have condemned the increase as unrealistic.
