What is SEACOM?
Operational since July 2009, SEACOM is a privately funded and over three quarter African owned, 1.28 Tbps, 17,000 kilometer, submarine fibre optic cable system providing southern and eastern African retail carriers with equal and open access to inexpensive bandwidth to global networks via India and Europe.

SEACOM was the first cable to provide broadband to countries in east Africa which previously relied entirely on expensive satellite connections.
