Johannesburg, South Africa — ESI-AFRICA.COM — 07 October 2011 – South Africa may issue a US$126 billion tender for the construction of six nuclear plants by 2030, the Mail & Guardian newspaper reports, citing unidentified people in government and the industry.

The report adds that the country’s Department of Energy submitted its proposal to the cabinet last month.

“French and Chinese companies may prepare a joint bid,” the Mail & Guardian said. It listed the potential bidders as Areva SA, Toshiba Corporation (6502)’s Westinghouse Electric Corporation, China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Corporation, Korea Electric Power Corporation and Rosatom Corporation.
