Natural gas
pipelines in Israel

Brussels, Belgium — ESI-AFRICA.COM — 23 November 2010 – Russian gas producer Gazprom is investigating the possibility of buying into offshore natural gas projects in Israel, says its deputy chief executive Alexander Medvedev.

“We are carefully looking at this opportunity,” Medvedev told reporters on the sidelines of an EU-Russia energy conference in the Belgian capital.

“We are a world energy company, and we are going in the direction where economic opportunities can be seen,” he added when asked about speculation that Gazprom wants to take a stake in the Israeli gas sector.

Russian and European energy officials have been meeting to discuss Europe’s future demand for Russian gas imports, and the prospects for building pipeline infrastructure.
