2 March 2009 – The decision regarding renewable energy feed-in tariffs (Refit) should be known by the end of the March, the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) said last week.

Due to the large number of submissions with regards to the tariff, NERSA has extended announcing the tariff twice, but has now confirmed the date for the tariff announcement as 30 March.

At the public hearing on 5 Feb, some 21 presentations were made to an audience of 145 stakeholders.  Amongst the concerns raised was that the proposed tariffs are insufficient to stimulate significant investment in South Africa’s renewable energy industry.

The South African government has targeted 10 000GWH to be generated by renewable energies by 2013.
