The renewable power generation plant of the future will be unmanned, says Swiss automation tech company ABB.
Remote service tools that are used to monitor and analyse critical plant equipment or processes have evolved to give full control functions through a web-based platform.
Software then plays a role to telecontrol the operations of an unmanned renewable power generation plant of all sizes, including hydropower, solar photovoltaic, wind and geothermal power.
Service providers like ABB are positioning themselves to offer remote control solutions where their staff will monitor sites on behalf of power generation companies.
The company claims the benefit is enhanced operational efficiency by applying predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance using self-learning algorithms.
It claims that a PV plant using the telecontrol system has a generation performance of between 86 per cent to 94 per cent of production capacity.
