19 November 2007 – The Power Holding Company of Nigeria’s (PHCN) Uyo District office has announced it will begin installing prepaid meters from December.
Oliver Ezeugwu, the district business manager, said the initial installations would be in selected premises and areas.
At least 1 000 meters will be installed each month until all old analogue meters had been phased out. 17 000 prepaid meters were expected to be delivered shortly.
Ezeugwu said prepaid meters would help eliminate friction between PHCN and consumers as "you pay only for what you consume."
