The next Power Indaba promises to be another top-level African forum in Cape Town with the recent announcement of a major sponsorship by international law firm, Dewey & LeBoeuf.
Power Indaba is a two day executive conference that provides a forum for African governments, utilities and the world’s top global business leaders to discuss power investment opportunities in Africa, best practices, and how best to accelerate the expansion of the power infrastructure in ways that will help engender sustainable growth on the continent.
“The need for power on the continent is obvious”, says Greg Nott, Dewey & LeBoeuf Managing Partner in Johannesburg, “and it is a real statement that Africa plays host to its own Power Indaba. For too long we have been guests and not hosts”.
The only event of its kind taking place in Africa, Power Indaba focuses specifically on investment in the African power industry and is the continent’s best resource for up-to-date information on financing and new business within the sector. It is a unique meeting forum for ministerial delegations, high level power executives, policymakers and international financiers.
According to Nott Africa is seeing an increase in private sector funding for infrastructure and an emergence of specialist African infrastructure funds. “There are real business opportunities in Africa and this is an event which focuses on investment in the African power industry, an industry which is burgeoning”, says Nott.
During Power Indaba, comprehensive panel discussions and round table meetings will cover how African countries can attract and fast-track financing for power projects, highlighting business opportunities and the implementation of systems for improved applications.
The event will take place on 20 and 21 May 2009 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, with a pre-conference workshop taking place on 19th May.
