Numsa condemns rumoured Eskom chairman appointment

16 June 2008 – In a press release on the National Union of Metalworkers (Numsa) website, the union condemns the rumoured appointment of Bobby Godsell as Eskom chairman as “a step too far backward” for real transformation."

Bobby Godsell 2According to the union, the appointment (which has not been confirmed by any government sources), was done in an "outright roguish and sneaking" way.

The union further alleges that the appointment infringes on Cosatu and alliance positions on deployment principles which emphasise consultation and racial equity. It also states in the press release that the secrecy surrounding the appointment implies "the powers that be were railroaded into accepting his appointment."

"Numsa wishes to express its disquiet that other energetic and innovative entrepreneurs were seemingly overlooked which would have ensured that other transformational executives with fresh ideas contributed urgently needed turnaround strategies to revitalize the embattled power utility."
