Johannesburg, South Africa — ESI-AFRICA.COM — 25 August 2011 – South Africa’s National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) says it is preparing for a strike against Roshcon “’ a unit of the state-run national power utility Eskom Holdings “’ after turning down the company’s latest wage offer.

The NUM is demanding a 9% raise and a 60% medical aid contribution by the employer. It said the company was offering an 8.6% increase.

“Later this week the NUM will declare a dispute with the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration, which will pave a way for a strike action,” the union said in a statement.
