More than 200 dams will be built by the Nigerian government within 2014, with a capacity of 10 000MW, says a report on the website Newpoint Africa.  The same promise, however, was made to Nigerian’s for the end of 2013, and the ability of the government to meet this ambitious target is being called in to question.

According to the report, Vice President Namadi Sambo has confirmed the country will achieve the target of 10 000WM of electricity within 2014.   Speaking during a meeting with management of Marubeni Corporation, he reiterated the appreciation of the Nigerian government for the efforts of the Japanese firm in building up Nigeria’s hydro power capacity.  This includes facilities such as Mambilla Dam and others.

The Nigerian government is offering incentives to encourage investors into the Nigerian economy, with specific focus on solid minerals sector, water supply and energy sector in the country.
