12 September 2012 – Egypt’s state information service says that September 2012 is to see what it describes as the opening of the most advanced factory in the Middle East and Africa for the production of electrical transformers and equipment (500 kV and 220 kV).

This factory located in El-Ain El-Sokhna will provide for the needs of the Egyptian grid and then export nearly 80% of its production. The factory has been established by Egyptian-Chinese investments. Egypt’s minister of electricity and energy Mahmoud Balbaa says that the Sokhnaproject is a beginning of cooperation that can lead Egypt to become a centre for the production of all electrical equipment that can be exported for use on all power grids in international markets.
