18 May 2009 – The new Energy Minister Elizabeth Dipuo Peters will officially welcome some 1400 visitors at this week’s African Utility Week, in what will be one of her first official appearances since taking office.
Mrs Dipuo Peters was the Northern Cape Province premier since 22 April 2004. President Jacob Zuma announced on Sunday that the former Minerals and Energy Ministry would split in two and that Mrs Dipuo Peters would take the office of Minister of Energy.
African Utility Week event director Claire Volkwijn: “We are delighted that Minister Dipuo Peters is coming to Cape Town to experience this unique power forum and to become acquainted with all the issues. It is a good sign that she is so eager to familiarise herself with the industry and its leading players.”
African Utility Week, which takes place from 18-22 May at the CTICC in Cape Town has become the biggest annual forum for African and international power experts to come together and discuss strategies as well as technical improvements to the power industry.
Part of African Utility Week is Power Indaba, a unique meeting forum for ministerial delegations, high-level power executives, policymakers and international financiers to tackle investment issues head-on, thereby encouraging and fast tracking the development of the African power sector.
