21 August 2013 – Egypt’s state information service says that the country’s electricity and energy sector will offer the private sector new solar energy projects in early September 2013.

This comes after the state offered the Kom Ombo solar power project to investors late last July. In Egypt new and renewable energy sector experts are focusing on defining the best areas for the implementation of the solar plan slated for late 2027 to add 350 MW to the national grid.

Minister of electricity Ahmed Imam says that the sector’s plan seeks to achieve 20% of total electricity production by means of new and renewable energy in Egypt by 2027.
