A MoU between Namibia’s power utility, NamPower and Angola’s Empresa Nacional De Electricidade was signed in the Menongue town and municipality in the Cuando Cubango province. Under the MoU, NamPower will supply electricity to cross-border towns and settlements in Southern Angola, and ugrade current supply points in Calai, Cuangar, Dirico and Micuso in Cuando Cubango. Supply will be extended to an additional 20 settlements in the province.
Paulinus Shilamba, Managing Director of the Namibian Utility said: “We are pleased that we have fulfilled our obligations on time and are ready to proceed with the implementation of the project in phases as directed during the last meeting, till its logical conclusion.”
Shilamba also expressed his commitment to following the principles regarding bilateral and economic cooperation between the two countries.
It was decided that the project would go ahead at a second meeting held in Calai on 21 May, upon a project update provided to the Angolan provincial government by NamPower.
