The original funding of US$40 million is said to have fallen short of requirements. The additional funding arrangement comes with an additional 30MW power supply to Namibia, instead of the 150MW originally agreed, Namibia will now get 180MW annually for five years.

The rehabilitation of the four generators at Hwange has already started, and the first 40MW will be on line in January 2008. Hwange, which has a capacity of some 480MW, has been struggling to maintain efficient supply due to equipment breakdowns and coal supply problems.
