10 January 2013 – The Kuwaiti fund for Arab Economic Development (KAED) has provided a loan of US$85 million to Sudan for the provision of electricity to about 660,000 new connections in the east of the country. The loan covers the supply and installation of diesel generating units.

This project covers areas that are isolated from grid networks and will take until 2015 to implement. The loan period is for 25 years.
