International battery group makes South African acquisition

18 September 2013 – International battery group, Uniross Batteries, has acquired South African company Battery Guys as part of a strategy, announced in July 2013 to re-enter the South African industrial battery market. “This acquisition gives Uniross the ability to relaunch into this market far quicker than starting from scratch,” Michael Rogers, managing director of Uniross Batteries, says.
Aaron Parkhouse, MD of Battery Guys and, an industrial battery specialist, will head up the newly created Uniross industrial division as industrial director. “He brings to Uniross vast experience and invaluable knowledge of the South African industrial battery market. His company has provided specialist products and services to the South African market for a number of years,” Rogers says. “We had our eye on other local battery companies for some time, but after many weeks of deliberation, Battery Guys were our outright favourite.”
“Uniross is one of the global leaders in battery technology with more than 46 years in this market,” Parkhouse says. “It is represented in 70 countries worldwide with a team of battery engineers, electrochemists, and electronic engineers, as well as its manufacturing facility in China. Combined with our knowledge of the local market and Uniross’ significant expertise and financial backing, merging of the two companies brings significant synergy.”
