16 July 2008 The Ingagane power station in KwaZulu Natal has the potential to add 600MW to the national grid once it is returned to service.
Eskom has invited bids from parties interested in taking over the power plant and returning it to service, 18 years after it was mothballed.
"Interested parties are requested to submit proposals for the optimal use of the site. The final decision by Eskom will not be done on financial considerations alone, but also on the potential benefit to the electricity supply situation in SA ," an advert from Eskom said.
Eskom is bringing previously mothballed stations, Camden, Grootvlei and Komati back to service as a part solution to the current electricity crisis.
