of Energy and
Petroleum

22 August 2013 – Ghana’s minister of energy and petroleum Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah says the country is on course to achieve a targeted power generation capacity of 5,000 MW by 2016. He also says the country is poised to achieve gas-based generation for 80 % of its thermal power stations by 2015.

Buah says that with the increase in electricity demand, the country had to add about 200 MW of power every year for the next 20 years. He says that in recognition of this the government is creating the environment for independent power producers to come in their numbers.
