Ghana: President sacks Energy Minister with immediate effect

The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has formerly relieved the Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko, of his position, with immediate effect.

In a letter from the Presidency, Akufo-Addo asked Agyarko to hand over his office to the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu, who will act temporarily as Minister for Energy, until a substantive appointment is made.

The President wished Agyarko well in his future endeavours.

No further details or reasoning for the termination of his contract was disclosed.

ESI Africa will report on any further developments.
