7 April 2008 – German ambassador to South Africa, Dieter Haller, said last week that Germany is ‘keen to help SA create renewable energy’.
“A key future strategic area of trade between Germany and South Africa is electricity production, especially renewable energy.”
This is an attractive field for Germany and also an important field in our own energy production. Forty percent of energy consumed in Germany comes from renewable sources. We’ve got the technological solutions already,” he said.
Haller said that Germany investment in South Africa would bring, not only technology, but jobs and economic growth.
“We have an interest in a prospering South Africa and this in turn is important for a growing and stable Africa. This country has enormous leverage in the rest of Africa." he said.
