“The rules for success and failure are being rewritten, and there’s no ‘business as usual’ anymore. This is true in every industry and every market. In this environment, the task of the leader must change.”

Speaking at the opening keynote of African Utility Week 2018, Graeme Codrington, Author, Futurist and Strategy Consultant, TomorrowToday, is of the opinion that the mindsets of the youth today should be seen as a major disruptor within the business environment, above digitalisation and rapid technological advancements.

"We’re not just living a time of turbulent change – we are actually experiencing an era shift in history. The rules for success and failure are being rewritten, and there’s no “business as usual” anymore," he said in a pre-show interview.

He added: "The best leaders today are those people who know what to do when nobody knows what to do, and are able to navigate confidently through uncertainty and paradox."

In an exclusive interview with ESI Africa, Codrington advises business leaders to think about the skills needed in the 2020's and seek out those skills today to get ahead of the curve.
