11 January 2007 – The US$206.5 million Mutundwe thermal power plant will begin generating power by April.

Eriasi Kiyemba, managing director of the Ugandan Electricity Transmission Company, and Steven Aitken, managing director of Aggreko Africa, signed a power purchase and implement agreement this week, facilitating the deal moving forward.

The 50MW project, funded by the World Bank, was originally due to go on line in March 2007. However, issues around tariffs, plant risk sharing and fuel capacity charges delayed negotiations on the project.
