10 September 2008 – An adviser is being sought to assist in the construction and operation of a 3 200MW gas fired power station at the Coega Industrial Development Zone.

Consisting of three phases, the first phase will add 800MW to the national grid, with a further 1 600MW and 2 400MW coming on line by 2012.

Senzeni Ndebele, Coega spokesperson, told reporters an adviser would be appointed shortly after 22 September to assist with the bidding process.

Work is also underway with government for a 330MW peaking power plant in the form of an open cycle gas turbine at Coega.
