Kenya will connect the continent’s first biogas-to-grid connection within the next few weeks, contributing 2.2MW to the national grid an official said on Wednesday, Reuters reported.
Johnnie McMillan, managing director of Tropical Power Kenya, biogas and solar developer, said that the corn fed biogas plant cost a total $6.5 million.
Portions of the generated power will be sold to state utility KenyaPower and the remainder will be used to power the biogas plant and investor corn company VegPro, McMillan said.
In addition, the plant developers have invested in a 10MW solar plant in the north-west region of Nairobi which will add to the national grid once in operation.
