Johannesburg, South Africa — ESI-AFRICA.COM — 16 August 2011 – The two executive directors of South African national power utility Eskom Holdings – CEO Brian Dames and chief financial officer Paul O’Flaherty “’ received R3.54 million in bonus payouts in the past year, in addition to normal salaries.
Miningmx reports that this is according to the Democratic Alliance (DA), South Africa’s official opposition party, which said it would challenge the bonuses. “Yet Eskom cannot guarantee that we will have enough electricity-generating capacity through to 2016,” the DA said.
This follows a report on Monday by Sake24 which said Transnet SOC’s top management was paid R63.6 million in bonuses on top of salaries that totalled R49.7 million.
“It is in this light that the DA will be delivering a submission to the Presidential State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Review Committee,” the DA said.
