Energy commission calls for research funding

11 November 2007 – The Federal Government of Nigeria has received a call from the Energy Commission to increase funding for energy research.

The commission also called for it to be compulsory for all houses and buildings to have at least one form of renewable energy installed. I

n a statement at the end of a workshop on Public Private Partnership in the Dissemination and Marketing of Research and Development Outputs in Nigeria, the government was called upon to subsidise renewable energy systems.

The statement called for all renewable energy systems to be made duty free and for manufacturing opportunities to be encouraged in the renewable energy field.

"Financial institutions should establish soft loans for renewable energy entrepreneurs at a single digit interest," the statement read.
