27 February 2013 – Egypt’s state information service says that the country’s electricity sector has finalised a plan, the first of its kind, to be implemented up to 2027, and which will add 3,500 MW to the national power grid.

The European Commission announced its participation to secure funds needed to carry out three renewable energy projects including two wind farms for generating electricity with 200 MW apiece at the Red Sea, according to a report submitted to the minister of electricity, Ahmed Emam.

He says the country’s electricity plan aims to increase renewable energy to 20% out of the total power production in 2020.
