6 May 2008 – Mozambique’s Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) has announced plans invest US$200 million in rural electricity projects over the next two years. In particular, EDM is working on a project to expand grid connections across the country.
Despite the Cahora BAssa hydro electric scheme, Mozambique only has a 15% electrification rate. However, work carried out by the government and donor agencies over the last two years has made it possible to link all provincial capitals to the national grid. However, only 68 of the 128 district capitals is connected to the grid.
