EDEL loses millions due to damage to cables

28 May 2009 – It was confirmed last week that the electricity distribution company for Luanda, EDEL, has lost some $1,2 million due to damage to high voltage cables caused by construction work which is ongoing in the capital, Luanda.

According to officials, one of the reasons for the cutting of the underground cables is a lack of communication between the heads and operators of the construction firms.  Emanuel Vieira Lopes confirmed that maps had been provided by EDEL to the contractors indicating the placement of the cables.
