In December 2012 the DRC recruited consultants to serve on panels to study development of the Inga complex and transmission lines to deliver its power.
The 350MW Inga I and 1,424MW Inga II hydroelectric schemes are currently producing some 500 MW and are undergoing rehabilitation. The next phase is the proposed 4,300MW Inga III project, considered a stepping stone towards development of the Grand Inga hydroelectric complex that could ultimately generate 40,000 MW.
