5 April 2013 – Egypt’s ministry of electricity and energy says the country has experienced a double digit annual increase in electricity demand in recent years and this growth in demand is expected to continue at about 11% through 2016.
A total of 12,400MW of new thermal power projects is to be implemented in Egypt in accordance with the country’s 2012 to 2017 five year plan. Of this, 6,900 MW will be built by the state-owned Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC).
In the 2010 to 2011 year, Egypt had a total installed capacity of some 27,000 MW.
