Johannesburg, South Africa — ESI-AFRICA.COM — 26 October 2010 – The Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) “’ whose purpose is to accelerate sustainable socio-economic development by funding physical, social and economic infrastructure in the region “’ is providing a US$105 million (R714 million) loan facility to Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (Zesco) to co-finance the expansion of the Kariba North Bank hydropower plant in Zambia.

Announcing this in a statement issued here, the bank said that the power plant’s capacity would be increased from 720 to 1 080MW “’ a 50% rise in power output.

The DBSA’s goal is to improve the quality of life of the people of Southern Africa. The bank plays a multiple role of financier, advisor, partner, implementer and integrator to mobilise finance and expertise for development projects in the region.
