The Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), an autonomous Society, serves as a National Laboratory for undertaking applied research in electric power engineering besides functioning as an independent National Testing and Certification Authority for electrical equipment and components to ensure reliability and improve, innovate and develop new products. The Head Office of the Institute is at Bangalore and its other units are located at Bhopal, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Ghaziabad, Kolkata and Gauwahati.
With its state-of-art infrastructure and expertise, CPRI has made significant contributions to the power sector in the country for improved planning, operation and control of power systems. Besides, in-house R&D, CPRI also undertakes sponsored research projects from manufacturers and power utilities in different areas of specialization.
