Benin and Togo are, ‘with immediate effect’, to again receive electricity from Cote d’Ivoire, following a visit by President Laurant Gbagbo of Cote d’Ivoire to Cotonou.

During the official visit to Benin last week, in which issues of joint interest were discussed, the resumption of electricity supply was one of the items on the agenda.

Since Cote d’Ivoire cut supply to Benin a few months ago, there has been very strict electricity rationing by the Beninese Electricity Community, the electricity regulating body.  The electricity supply from Cote d’Ivoire accounts for almost 20% of the supply to Benin and Togo.
