City Power awards R70 million mini-subs contract

 
5 April 2013 – City Power, which is Johannesburg’s electricity distributor, awarded Actom Switchgear a substantial portion of its latest term contracts for miniature substations. The contract, worth an estimated R70 million, applies to the period March 2012 to March 2015.  

The mini-subs will be utilised by the city of Johannesburg metropolitan municipality on various new projects and on the upgrading of existing infrastructure. The mini-subs are to be manufactured at the Actom Knights site in batches as required. They are of the 11 kV B type with power ratings up 1,000 kVA.

In addition, these units incorporate the latest requirements of City Power with regard to a low voltage connection point for a standby generator and data acquisition to a central control point. “They conform to City Power’s specifications and are manufactured to the latest international IEC and NRS standards,” Alec Duff, Actom MV Switchgear’s marketing manager says.
