14 December 2007 – It has been reported that Powertech, a subsidiary of the Altron group has appointed Dr Herb Chikwanda as CEO of Powertech IST. Chikwanda, who was the managing director of IST Energy, will assume his new role in March.

Dr Herb Chikwanda has
been appointed as
CEO of Powertech IST.

“I am excited about taking up the challenge of maximising Powertech and IST’s synergies as we strive to create a leaner and more competitive organisation,” said Chikwanda.

“In benefiting from the economies of scale of a larger group, a healthy balance sheet and infrastructural support, it is our vision for 2008 and beyond to grow our order book and to enhance our cost-competitiveness, delivery and services synergy, thereby making us a formidable competitor in the infrastructure, building and construction sectors.”

Dr Chikwanda has also served as a director of business development at Engineering Management Services and held senior positions at Murray & Roberts Contractors, CSIR and GEC ALSTHOM Traction (UK).

He holds a Doctorate in Philosophy – Engineering, from the University of London and a Masters of Engineering from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand.
