7 January 2009 – The Botswana Power Company has signed an $8 million deal to revive a shut-down thermal power station in Zimbabwe, thereby providing sufficient power to ease national blackouts.

According to state media, the deal will provide for BPC to provide the Zimbabwe Power Company with the funds to refurbish the Bulawayo power plant, which has been out of commission since 2008.  The amount of $8 million will also allow for the purchase of coal.

The electricity generated will be exported to Gaborone.
