The names of the new bosses for KenGen, Kenya Power and the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) of Kenya have been confirmed.
Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir picked Albert Mugo to head KenGen, confirmed Ben Chumo’s position at the helm of Kenya Power and appointed Laurencia Njagi as the ERC boss. Mugo, who was the Business Development and Strategy Director at KenGen, was recommended by the KenGen board recommended, citing his performance in his current duties and for continuity as he has been in charge of multibillion-shilling projects.
Chumo, who has been acting Managing Director since the departure of Joseph Njoroge, who took up the role of Principal Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, will continue in this position.
Chirchir explained that he had delayed the appointments to ensure that they met the constitutional requirements of gender and regional balance.
“I wanted to ensure that the appointments reflect gender and regional balance as enshrined in the law and I am happy that among the appointees is a woman,” he told Kenya’s Standard newspaper.
