Johannesburg, South Africa — ESI-AFRICA.COM — 19 September 2011 – Jasandra Nyker “’ a leading South African renewable energy expert “’ has returned home to take up an appointment as CEO of BioTherm Energy – a well-established energy company poised to play a significant role in the country’s steadily unfolding alternative energy industry.
Based in Johannesburg, BioTherm is an independent power producer focused on developing, acquiring and financing wind and solar power renewable energy generation projects. It has a large portfolio of late-stage renewable energy projects in South Africa and elsewhere in Africa, and is also pursuing an acquisitive growth strategy in this field.
Nyker’s appointment as CEO of BioTherm came just weeks before South Africa’s Department of Energy released its RFP (Request for Proposals) for the supply by independent power producers of 3 725MW of renewable energy – including 1 850MW and 1 450MW respectively for wind and PV solar projects.
“With regulation now in place for the rollout of the renewable energy sector in South Africa, we are pleasantly surprised with the allocations for wind and solar – which is where the bulk of BioTherm’s attention is focused,” says Nyker.
“We believe that the emergence of this sector is well poised to promote economic development and job creation in South Africa and BioTherm is eager to play its part,” she adds.
BioTherm Energy is backed by Denham Capital, a leading energy-focused global private equity group. Denham Capital is committed to supporting BioTherm’s renewable energy initiatives and is the R1-billion anchor investor in BioTherm Energy.
