Anglo American reports decrease in domestic coal production in SA

Sold minerals producer Anglo American reported that its total export thermal coal production increased by 8% to 7.9 million tonnes during the fourth quarter of 2013. However, export production from South Africa decreased by 1% to 4.6 million tonnes.

Domestic thermal coal production for Eskom decreased by 11% to 7.6 million tonnes during that period, due to wet weather interruptions, a longwall stoppage at New Denmark colliery and lower demand from Eskom from New Vaal colliery.

Other domestic thermal coal production (non-Eskom) decreased by 23% to 1.2 million tonnes during that period because of wet weather interruptions at Isibonelo colliery.
