8 October 2009 – Algeria and Morocco last week completed a long-anticipated project to link their power networks at 400 kilovolts, Echorouk reported on Saturday (October 3rd). Energy officials say the measure will enable Algeria to export some 1,000 megawatts to Spain.

"This successful action between Sonelgaz and Morocco’s Power Office will provide the North African power network with record protection [and] also reactivate a real power market in North Africa," the Algerian state energy company announced.
