Nampower, the Namibian utility, is exploring options for a 20 000 solar water heater campaign, due to be launched in April 2014.  The campaign, aimed at reducing demand on the network, will replace 20 000 electric water heaters with solar water heaters through a rebate system.

“The intent of the rebate is to reduce the initial capital hurdle, thus increasing the probability of SWH take-up,” Nampower said.

Part of a 5 year campaign, Nampower foresees the replacement process being driven by the end user.  Solar water users who are interested in participating have until the 31 January to register their interest.  More information can be found on www.nampower.com.na
